Loving working with Metal!

Well I am most definitely slacking on posting!  Life is busy as always, but never a dull moment!  I'm recently working on another welding project,  but there will be a lot more applied to the project in forms of other various media. I'm super excited about it already! Here's a glimpse of the beginning stages.

Another trade to add to my skill tool box!

For the longest time, I have talked about learning to weld. Well I finally had the opportunity to. Currently I am in a sculpture class at Northern State University. I have on of the many art department faculty as my professor/instructor, Dr. Greg Blair. Whom is an amazing artist himself. You can check out many of his amazing works here http://www.gregoryblair.com
I made two sampler pieces just to start out. The first image you see is of cartoon animal, not really sure what kind of animal I was aiming for, but I like it nonetheless.  The second image is of feathers, made as a gift for my wonderful mother in law, Cathy. I was very nervous at first, as many people might be with things containing high heat and electricity. In the end I really enjoyed it and can't wait to do more!

Watercolor binge!

Right before I painting this, I had just participated in a two day watercolor workshop. It was so much fun! I was able to spend time with and bounce ideas off of some truly great people, along with having a wonderful, and knowledgeable instructor. The image shown was created as a gift, it is comprised of animals my 4 year old deemed necessary. I think he was right, because this turned out super cute!

Raku progress, metamorphosis!

Along with the watercolor course i attended at NSU -AEI. I took a ceramic sculpture course with a very talented individual. His artist name is Moguya. There is still a lot I want to do on this piece but I don't think it's too bad for a day and half of work.

Painting Progress

For 3D design class we're doing a collaborative project with a partner.  We have to select an image then recreate it on a 2' x 4' piece of wood. The tricky part is that it has to be a relief sculpture using screws. Here is the start of the background.

Doodles and substitutions

I subbed for a class at the ARCC last week, they were 6, 7 & 8th graders. It was a lot of fun, they were working on finishing batik projects from the previous weeks. One young gentleman gave me a pic of a an angler fish, then told me to draw something as well. So here is my take on an angler fish, its made with sharpie and melted crayons.

Today is brought to you by the letter H!

I've constructed the letter H, for my 3D design class. The project is too construct letters to make up a word using different forms of 3D design. We have to use Relief, which is what I did with the H above, a earthwork which I am constructing outside my house (Not so much fun since its -9 degrees f. outside) A sculpture-in-the-round, and an Indoor installation. The word has to be a minimum of four letters, of course I picked one 6 characters long. I'll post the whole word when I am finished!

Paper sculpture

For the 3D design class that I am in at NSU our latest project was to make a sculpture for a fairytale which was randomly drawn out of a box. I drew sleeping beauty, and choose to make Malifacents Dragon and a spindle in some rubble.
